NEWSLETTER – AUGUST 2009

Well here we go again another Bonfire Season rapidly approaching…can you smell the paraffin? This is where our efforts get rewarded. Hope your costumes are coming on well.

An article in ‘About Town’ about us will appear in the September edition. Look out for this.

Our beer is taking off but I do need some help co-ordinating it. Please can you contact me if you can help, any help does go a long way. Perks are to be had so let me know!

I am pleased to announce that our Beer will be showcased at a Beer Festival at the Martlets Hall over our weekend. I have some tickets for beer team volunteers but you must promise not to get too drunk!

FINALLY we all want to have a GREAT NIGHT to be remembered on our 40th Night, only with your help can this happen. To volunteer please speak to one of the committee (contact details are below). The captains have been duly charged with their jobs and will be on the hunt for volunteers.

Enjoy the newsletter, if you have any comments about it or any other matter, please give me a call. Look forward to seeing you at Uckfield.

Membership Renewal LAST REMINDER

2008 Membership expires on 31st August 2009 and if you have not renewed you will NOT be allowed to attend out-meetings or walk on our night. Please renew your membership as soon as possible. We need you all! If you know of anyone who you think would like to join, please encourage them to do so.

Outfits – Fire Risk

Please remember that any outfits that you or your children wear may not be fire retardant and may burn or melt when exposed to naked flame. Sounds obvious to many but please ensure that you wear appropriate materials which do not put yourself or your children in danger.

Risk Assessment

It is all our responsibility to ensure that we have a safe and fun evening, of course H&S sometimes goes too far but it is critical that everyone is vigilant and aware of the risks to themselves and others. You all have a duty to read and adhere to the Risk Assessment attached to the email distribution.

Please remember to read the Risk Assessment, it is a requirement for this to be read and understood by all members as non adherence could lead to injury to oneself or others and endanger your society.

If you need a hard copy please Alex Butcher know.

Our Night’s preparations…

With just 1 month to go preparations are still going on. Volunteers for jobs are being sought, this is where you can help, I do not need to explain what would happen if no help is offered. Your society needs you…..

Torches

Steve Weeding and his band of helpers have done a sterling effort in getting the torches made and they are ready for dipping on the Friday (25th) All hands are needed at the shed. Please come down to relieve some of the hard work they do for you. It is appreciated.

Programmes

3000 programme have been printed and these are now ready for sale. Burgess Hill is a big place and programme sellers are urgently needed to sell all the programmes for this major fundraising source. Any help is appreciated (even if it is just your street)

Felt underlay appeal

The success of our torch makers has led to us being devoid of felt, so much so that we will have to purchase new for next year’s event. We do not want that as it is a cost we could do without. Please can you keep an eye out for us? Any felt underlay will be gratefully received.

If you have some or know where we can get our hands on some then please email Steven Weeding on mazweed@fsmail.net or call 01444 236401
